Gunter Prus was a Bishop of Płock in 1223 and again from 1227-1232.〔( Gunter Prus at GCatholic.org )〕 Born into the Prus noble family, his career saw him both as Canon and Dean of Płock. Then following the death of Bishop Gedko Powało he contended, with the supported by Duke Konrad I of Masovia, for the bishops throne against his rival Jan Gozdawita who died in 1227. His episcopacy saw him appose the Teutonic Knights 〔History of the Diocese of Płock Website-24. (2012-11-18).〕 encouraged Duke Konrad, recall the Teutonic Knights to Polish lands〔Britannica universal community institutions () with illustrations and maps, volume VI, the letter G to Herburty. Font Foundry Society Publishing House Britannica, London 1900, pages 426.〕 and militarily appose the neighbouring pagan Prussians who were pillaging and slaving in Polish territory at the time.〔John Nep "Polish Armorial Gaspar Niesieckiego.
